The basic architecture of OpenEDM has proven itself in numerous projects. OpenEDM unifies latest technologies like WebServices and Silverlight, but also interfaces (e.g., with Catia V4 on AIX (Unix) workstations) proven over the years in a multi-layered modular client-server architecture. Our customers trust our consistency as well the robustness of OpenEDM: an update of one of the involved software applications (e.g., CAD or ERP) does not require automatically an upgrade of OpenEDM. This creates trust and saves resources.
From the user perspective, the requirements that a standard product like OpenEDM must fulfil are extremely diverse and apply to the numbering system(s), project management, organization model and role definition as well as to process management (e.g., release and modification runs, sales processes, data input and output processes etc.).
Thanks to its flexible, object-oriented data model, OpenEDM can be adapted to individual requirements through configuration. To find the correct entry level, one must decide how PDM is to be used strategically in the company.
We have developed two different procedural models for this:
"Decide & Go" with the claim of accessing the PDM subject as quickly as possible or
"Design & Win" with the objective of establishing PDM as a strategic platform in the company, which manages and controls the data management in the product creation process (PEP) across the group.
